Ik geloof in God,
de almachtige Vader,
Schepper van hemel en aarde,
en in Jezus Christus, zijn enige Zoon, onze Heer,

BIJ DE WOORDEN DIE VOLGEN, TOT EN MET ‘ DE MAAGD MARIA ‘ , ALLE BOEG .

die ontvangen is van de Heilige Geest,
geboren uit de maagd Maria,
die geleden heeft onder Pontius Pilatus,
is gekruisigd, gestorven en begraven;
hij neergedaald in de hel;
op de derde dag verrezen uit de doden,
die opgestegen is ten hemel,
en is gezeten aan de rechterhand
van God de almachtige Vader;
vandaar dat hij zal komen
. om de levenden en de doden te oordelen
Ik geloof in de Heilige Geest,
de heilige katholieke Kerk,
de gemeenschap der heiligen,
de vergeving van de zonden,
de verrijzenis van het lichaam,
en het eeuwig leven. Amen.

During the seasons of Lent and Easter there is encouragement for us to use the Apostles’ Creed at Mass.

This Creed is the ancient baptismal Creed of the Roman Church. The reason for its preferment during Lent and Easter is that it is in these seasons  that, first, men and women are preparing for Baptism and initiation into the Church and, then, that they begin to live by the grace of the sacrament.

The use of the baptismal Creed at Sunday Mass prepares for their profession of faith (and our renewal of that profession at the Easter Vigil or on Easter Sunday), and reminds that it is by that faith we strive to live thereafter.

I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
